Skipper's Fish Camp
On the banks of the Darien River, Skippers' Fish Camp offers not only an unequalled dining experience but also a glimpse into the pasts of Darien and the historic Colonial Coast of Southeast Georgia. Elegant views of the Altamaha bio-reserve; public boat slips; a public boat ramp; a floating dock just for canoe and kayak enthusiasts; and spectacular sunsets, as well as the best in casual seafood dining has made Skippers' Fish Camp the ultimate in riverside dining. The local shrimp fleet docks right at our backdoor and provides us with an abundant supply of fresh locally caught Sweet Georgia Shrimp. We take pride in using only the freshest ingredients when bringing our servings to the table. Today, Skippers' Fish Camp Oyster Bar and Grill serves seafood and ribs to an eager public. Our patrons are greeted by an 11-foot alligator (stuffed and mounted) and a sea of friendly faces. The floor covering is made of hand-cut bricks recovered from a demolished Middle Georgia structure that had been built in the1940s. The bar and table tops were fashioned from timbers that had been floated down the Altamaha River from the interior of the state during Darien's halcyon timber days of the 1800s. These milled timbers, salvaged from Brunswick, Georgia's Oglethorpe Hotel, had been saved and used as double flooring in the Skipper Seafood Company's legendary "poker shack." Some of you may remember the Oglethorpe Hotel for a number of reasons, one of which is that it was used in the Hollywood movie, The View from Pompeii's Head. So, the next time you eat in our restaurant or hoist a cool one at our bar, you've become a part of not only Georgia history but Hollywood history as well!

Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run
The Annual Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run across the scenic Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick, Georgia is scheduled each Saturday of President's Weekend. The Sidney Lanier Bridge is 7,780 feet long, making the Run both challenging and beautiful. The 2012 event registered over 2,200 participants who ran or walked across Georgia's tallest span. The 2013 event, held on February 16, 2013, was the most successful to date and netted $45,000 for the Health System’s cancer care programs. Certified by the U.S. Track and Field Association as "the toughest 5K in Georgia"participants start on the southbound side of the bridge, go over, and return back, crossing the bridge twice. The event is not for the timid, and should only be attempted by those who have properly trained. Radio frequency chip technology will be used to record the race results for runners. Each year a special pre-race Pasta Party event will be held for registered participants Friday evening. There is always great food, waterfront views, participant's EXPO & pre-registration packet pick-up, allowing for shorter lines on Saturday morning. Each year this event benefits the Southeast Georgia Health System cancer programs, with proceeds going to patient services. These includes the establishment of a cancer specific resource center, physical and nutritional counseling, and expansion of our public cancer screening programs. The 2014 Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run is scheduled for February 15, 2014. For information about sponsorship and vendor opportunities, please contact Krista Robitz at 912-466-3361.

Southeast Georgia Health System Fitness Trail
The Southeast Georgia Health System Fitness Trail is located adjacent to the St. Simons Immediate Care Center and Gascoigne Bluff on St. Simons Island. The trail opened in the fall of 2006 as part of the Health System’s dedication to promoting health and wellness through regular exercise. The half-mile, paved trail is open daily from daylight to dusk. It gracefully curves and winds its way through a forest of live oaks, cedars, bamboo, and other native plants while benches and fitness stations are strategically placed along the way. The trail is also accessible to anyone who is physically challenged, including those who must use a wheelchair or other mobility device. The entrance of the trail, which is located on Arthur J. Moore Drive, is marked by a wood and synthetic oyster tabby arbor that matches the architectural style used throughout the Golden Isles. The arbor was donated in memory of Dottie Castle, by her daughters, and the Sea Island Garden Group. The trail’s bamboo loop was made possible by a gift from Mike and Lucia Gumaer and is named in their honor.
