Locos of Saint Simons
In 1988, Jamey Loftin and Hughes Lowrance decided to open a tiny general store and deli in Athens, Georgia and they called it Locos Deli and General Store. They sold sandwiches, milk, toilet paper and other basic needs of college students and delivered them to the residents and students around the University of Georgia. Nearly 20 years later Locos is a thriving concept with a new name, Locos Grill & Pub, and has grown to more than twenty locations throughout the Southeast. Anyone who meets Jamey and Hughes, or dines at any Locos location, seems to be amazed that it all started as simply a great hangout for a good group of friends. The original general store still sits on top of the hill on Oconee Street, but it is now another establishment. The restaurant that once stood there was moved to a location nearer to the UGA campus.

Lover's Oak
The Lover's Oak (said to date back to the 12th century) is located at the intersection of Albany and Prince Streets in Historic Downtown Brunswick. According to local legend, Native American braves and their maidens met under the majestic spreading limbs of this enormous oak. As of 2005, the Lover’s Oak was estimated to be 900 years old. The tree’s trunk is about 13 feet in diameter and it branches into ten limbs measuring 12 to 30 inches in diameter. From the plaque at the base of the tree: 1787-1987. The National Arborist Association and The International Society of Arboriculture jointly recognize this significant tree in this bicentennial year as having lived here at the time of the signing of our constitution.

Mackay River Fishing Pier & Launch
The Mackay River Fishing Pier is on the south side of the Torras Causeway just before the Morningstar Marina. You can access this pier from either side of the Mackay River when traveling east from the mainland towards St. Simons Island but, you can only access this fishing pier from the Morningstar Marina entrance if traveling west from St. Simons Island towards the mainland, Brunswick. If accessing the pier from the marina you can also access the Mackay River boat launch and dock. The Mackay River boat launch and dock provide water access to the Mackay River. There is ample parking in the lot or shaded parking underneath the Torras Causeway. This is a great water access point to kayak around Lanier Island (about three miles) or boat to the north exploring Mackay and Frederica Rivers. The Mackay River is part of the Intracoastal Waterway so watch out for boating traffic.
